Shearwater Capital Group
Shearwater Capital Group is a privately-owned alternative investment management and advisory business, founded in 2008 and based in Sydney.
Shearwater's approach to investing is to identify sectors, asset classes and individual investments that offer asymmetric risk/return characteristics. These opportunities are often found at times when capital is scarce and during periods of market or sector-specific dislocation and stress. Preservation of capital is a core principle that Shearwater applies to all investment opportunities, seeking those opportunities that offer enchanced protection on the downside and the ability to capture meaningful upside.
Shearwater launched its first fund, the Shearwater Capital Special Opportunities Fund ("The Fund") in January 2009, which is now closed to new investors. The Fund invested in opportunistic credit and special situations in Australia, targeting investment opportunities generated by market conditions of illiquidity, financial distress and deleveraging. The Fund's investment track record has been highly successful, generating IRRs well in excess of target.
Shearwater is currently pursuing a number of initiatives, including:
- preparing subsequent funds for market, including a senior credit fund and second special opportunities fund;
- tailoring individual managed accounts for large institutional investors;
- syndicating investment opportunities to its investment partners; and
- developing other specialist funds.
